Former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter celebrated his 29th birthday on Monday, receiving birthday gifts from his fellow band mates and celebrity friends, reports reveal.

The American teen heartthrob was kept in the dark about the star-studded event's party ideas, insiders claimed.

A source told People magazine: "They shut off all the lights and did a surprise for Nick downstairs early in the night.

"They all yelled surprise and they had cupcakes for him. Nick was good. He and his friends were just laughing up a storm in their VIP booth."

Backstreet Boys Howie and AJ, and former 'N Sync singer JC Chasez shared in the celebrations, eating cake and performing on stage alongside the birthday boy.

Nick is often seen out and about on the LA club scene alongside young celebrity socialites such as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

He starred in US reality TV show House of Carters, which followed his family life with younger brother, Aaron.
