Brits go barmy for baby showers
28 Feb
Around 3.9 million Brits have been involved with the US-based trend of baby showers over the last five years, it has been reported.
The Transatlantic Trend Spotting report by cahoot found that broody Brits are not being stingy either, a whopping £102 million was spent on baby shower presents and each host spent around £148 on various party ideas such as games, prizes and decorations.
When it comes to gifts, 63 per cent of guests took the practical route and forked out for baby clothes, whereas 25 per cent took pity on the pregnant Mum and splashed out on pampering products.
The average present, which could be a beautiful baby album for the loving parents to keep all their snaps in, was found to cost an average of £25.
Matthew Timms, head of cahoots, commented: "Britons are always looking for more ideas for things to do with their money. It's a great way to celebrate a new life and the start of a new chapter."
The baby shower trend was attributed to popular US television shows such as Sex in the City and Friends, along with reportedly lavish parties held for A-list stars such as Nicole Ritchie and J Lo.
Christina Aguilera's loving husband is said to have thrown her an extravagant "carnival-esque" baby shower, complete with drag queens, according to Hello! magazine.
