A happy couple from Gloucestershire celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last weekend, prompting memories of anniversary gifts gone by.

Quedgely's Joan and Ron Winters went to Bristol to watch Doctor Dolittle, which starred Tommy Steele, reports the Citizen.

Steele himself has a special meaning for the married pair, as one of his records was the first gift Joan ever received from her husband. He was widely regarded as one of Britain's first rock and roll idols when he appeared on the scene in the 1950s.

Mrs Winters was very happy, telling the newspaper that it turned out to be "absolutely brilliant". She also got to meet Steele after the show.

As an extra anniversary gift, the Winters' will be heading to St Aldate's Church today to have their 50-year marriage newly blessed. The actual date of their original wedding was March 26th 1958.
