An 80-year-old woman in Stockbridge received special birthday gifts this week from Olympic athlete Dame Kelly Holmes.

Mrs Edith Stephenson was working at B&Q, where she has been an employee for 19 years, when the double gold medallist made an appearance in honour of her big day, following the retailer's support of the British team this year.

Kelly led a rendition of Happy Birthday among the employees and gave Mrs Stephenson a big hug, the local newspaper reports.

Commenting on the unique surprise, the birthday girl told the Keighley News: "Kelly is a very nice person, very easy to get along with, and she doesn't look any older than 18."

Answering questions on the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games, Kelly told staff at the store: "Hopefully, with the games coming to London we will get youngsters involved and get sport back into Britain and host the best games ever. We are going to do it."

The 38-year-old runner won two gold medals at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
