X Factor winner Leona Lewis had plenty to celebrate as she turned 23 today (April 3rd), reports the Sun.

Perhaps one of the best birthday gifts of all was seeing her single Bleeding Love get to number one in the US chart.

Bosses at her label certainly seemed to be pleased with the result, throwing her a lavish birthday party at River Cafe in New York.

However, this is just one of the party ideas friends and family had in store, as Lewis wrote on a blog: "I went out last Friday in LA to celebrate Bleeding Love reaching number one out here and had a great night.

"My mates gave me a surprise and popped party-poppers and had huge balloons and a cake."

The London-born singer is just the third UK female artist to achieve a number one in the US with a debut single, following Petula Clark in 1965 and Sheena Easton in 1981.
