Dog-lovers are throwing special parties to celebrate their canine friends, reports NewsOK.com.

According to the Oklahoman news website, a US dog owner threw a special party to introduce their new pet to their family and friends.

A pet photographer took a special digital photo of the mixed-breed Lhasa which was then attached to the invitation with a ribbon.

The writer cites party ideas from Charlotte Reed's book The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette which includes dog costumes, bark mitvahs, bow vows and a bowwow luau.

"Just so our pet would know how special it was to us, we both talked to the dog about the party several days before, praising its good behaviour," the writer states. "I'm certain the dog understood every word."

The Human Society of the United States is adding a new promotional opportunity to Spay Day USA.

Dog owners are being asked to look through their photo album and upload a digital photo of their pets with an accompanying story about how their animal has improved their life.
