Paul O'Grady's surprise birthday gifts
17 Jun
Television presenter Paul O'Grady received two very special birthday gifts last week, reports the Daily Mirror.
As part of his 53rd birthday party ideas, the producers of his current chat show series invited his idols Cagney and Lacey over from the US.
Although O'Grady was aware that he was to be surprised by a guest, he assumed it was his good friend Barbara Windsor, who was also in on the joke.
When Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly walked on set, the presenter shouted "I don't believe it!" and said it had made his birthday.
Gless and Daly told him: "You are under arrest for being drunk and disorderly and French polishing in public! You should remain silent but we imagine you'd find that very difficult."
Also among O'Grady's birthday gifts this year was a special honour from the Queen. He was given an MBE over the weekend for his services to entertainment.
