Sir Alan Sugar spent around £4 million in anniversary gifts and celebrations for his wife this year, it has been reported.

According to the Daily Mirror, the star of BBC1 series The Apprentice celebrated 40 years of marriage - known as the ruby wedding anniversary.

The millionaire splashed out on a marquee the size of a football pitch for his home in Chigwell, Essex where a "royal variety performance of stars" was held.

Bruce Forsyth and a 58-strong cast of the musical The Jersey Boys entertained the couple and their guests.

However, the icing on the cake was when Sir Elton John interrupted the party surprise for Anne, who is reportedly a fan, in a helicopter.

"It was just jaw-dropping," a friend told the newspaper.

Elton John will celebrate his third wedding anniversary at the end of this year. He tied the knot with his long-term partner David Furnish in a civil partnership ceremony on December 21st 2005.
