It is set to be one of the most exclusive christenings of the year, as Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony prepare to have their newborn twins officially blessed.

TransWorldNews reports that the happy parents have asked Tom Cruise to be godfather to both of their children and that the Mission Impossible actor is delighted.

"Marc wasn't sure if it was a good idea to have a Scientologist as the kid's godfather, especially as he and Jennifer are both Catholic," said a source. "But in the end Jennifer manager to convince him to agree."

Cruise has reportedly spent over $200,000 (£101,408) on presents for newborn Max and Emme, including designer gowns for their christenings, a fish tank for the nursery and box sets of the complete set of Disney DVDs.

The Daily Star previous reported that Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes plan to host a welcome celebration for the twins, spending around £100,000 on various party ideas such as pink and blue cakes for the guests.
