David Beckham is planning a surprise for his wife's birthday this year, reports Now magazine.

The former England skipper told the Daily Star Sunday that the entire family are flying out to LA to celebrate Victoria's 34th tomorrow (April 17th).

"It's my wife's birthday and I'm planning something special," he said.

But David is clearly keeping any birthday gifts or party ideas to himself, telling the newspaper: "It's a big secret, so please don't ask."

Last year, 32-year-old David treated his wife to a shopping trip in Paris, staying in the luxurious Ritz hotel.

While in the city of love, Victoria picked out numerous birthday gifts for herself, reportedly spending around £70,000 in the Marais district.

The celebrity couple then dined at Guy Savoy restaurant, paying around £15,000 for the privilege.

Shopping trips appear to be birthday gifts of choice for the pair, as Victoria treated the football star to a spree in London's Saville Row for his 32nd last May.
