Wedding party ideas 'add up for guests'
30 May
As more and more people consider travelling abroad for their hen and stag weekends, the cost of various wedding party ideas is mounting up, research has found.
According to Hotels.com, 43 per cent of Brits have visited a foreign country for a friend or family member's stag or hen do, with eastern European countries, Dublin, Amsterdam and Barcelona listed as the top destinations.
The average person now spends £170 helping their loved ones celebrate their last days of freedom, the source claimed.
In total, getting ready for and attending weddings costs people an average of £1,719 a year, it added, as a night's accommodation can reach £123 a time.
Alison Couper, communications director for the firm, said: "Most of us worry about saving up for our own wedding day and don't really consider the amounts that we spend on other people's big days."
The costs can soon add up, she warned.
Research by Alliance & Leicester found that the average cost of a wedding is £19,400.
